Third Penguin

thirdpenguin.com social network is using my painting as their logo.

in return for my image, they offered to put an ad up for me as a sponsor. i decided to send them an ad for my Power Hour DVD. it's at the bottom right of the home page. if you don't see it the first time, it should show up after a few refreshes.

Hula Hooper

i make video games for a living. it involves computers, programming, 3-D graphics and design among other complex things. apparently entertainment used to consist of a big plastic ring.

Baby Dinosaur

this request was for a dinosaur. i decided to paint one on his birthday. he looks pretty tired. eggs are difficult. or maybe that's a bored face. though it seems unlikely he's already jaded at a few seconds old.

HOAX!

no, no, no, no, no. there's no way this animal exists. every single picture of them on google images is photoshopped.

Ichi, Ni, San, Shi, Sushi

i just had two sushi requests very close to each other. this one's got salmon and avocado in it. unless you're a vegetarian. then the orange part is carrots.

Spartan

this makes me want to watch 300 again. well, more like listen to 300 again. i don't watch movies i just hear them while i paint.

Cream Filled Chocolate Sandwich Cookie and Baby Cow Food

according to wikipedia, the hydrox cookie was actually made FIRST yet hydrox suffered the misimpression that it was a knockoff. that's a shame.

Salmon Roll, Ginger and Wasabi

since this was my third sushi painting i figured i'd change it up and add some ginger and wasabi too. i love the colors that go along with eating sushi. black and white with accents plus a lump of green and pink on the side.

Puppy That's Faking Sleep on a Shoe to Manipulate You with It's Cuteness

i was given a black and white picture of this pup so instead of trying to guess at it's colors i just painted it black and white.

The Death of Marat

i hope this wouldn't have upset Jacques-Louis David.

Video Game Music

since my company is small, i get to be designer, illustrator, (sometimes even programmer), 3-D artist and COMPOSER! i'm quite lucky to have found a place that actually pays me to make art aaaand music. or maybe my company is lucky to have found an artist that studied music. either way, a normal sized studio would outsource sound design so this is uncommon.

i just finished a couple of tracks for the latest game on which we're working. the game features a robot on a farm. a little odd, i know. so i made the music a little odd. its kind of a hoedown with mechanical percussion. you can listen to it below. the game also opens with a dream sequence so i took the same hoedown melody and arranged it in a slumber-like style.

Robot On A Farm Dream

i haven't posted any of the video game music i've done in the past so i figured i'd use this post to catch up. the first one below is for a puzzle game where you knock blocks over to score points. it starts out with an intro where you're flying through the sky gathering points by hitting stars and rings. it then segues to the more low key music that loops as you play. the second one below is for a space shooter game.

Duck and a Boat

i forgot to post again but i have a good excuse. i was working from home so i wasn't in my usual routine. this good excuse also comes with a bonus! i was working from home because i was writing music for the newest video game my company is finishing soon. the following post will be about said bonus.

this one is a little different than my usual because the background comes up over the boat to become the waves.

Planet Earth

i was asked to paint the globe and i used the Daughter Earth logo as inspiration. a friend of mine runs the company and she told me she hates how pictures of earth are usually shown focusing on north america.

Horse Number One

i'm surprised this is the first horse request i've ever gotten. i swear horses were way more popular when i was in grade school. then again they were probably just more popular in the age group by which i was surrounded. i'll name him patrick since it's st. patrick's day.

Two Giant Guinea Pig Hitmen in Zoot Suits

on the left is Guido. he is about 6'3", 280 lbs, and is light brown with white spots. the other is Nuncio. he's 6'2", 230lbs, and is white with black spots. according to the requester, "they are 1920s gangsters, who wear the zoot suits and fedoras and such - but happen to be giant guinea pigs."

Green Beer, a Ghost, a Robot, a Milk Carton and a Dog

this is my second post in a row that has to have two paintings. my excuse this time is that i was entirely too busy celebrating st. patrick's day. i'm a big fan of day drinking and it is completely sanctioned in pittsburgh for st. patty's day weekend. most excellent.

the request was "can you paint me a dog coming out of a milk carton?" and no other explanation. what the heck is that? why?? and is it a really tiny dog or a giant milk carton?? also, why?!?!

i'm guessing this is another relationship representation. i was asked to paint them either in love or looking like they're really great friends.

Cake Bot!

i just sent a painting (well, i'm about to as soon as i package it and get to the post office) to a fellow yinzer at Steel City Cakes. she makes awesome designer cakes like the ones on the food network and she's completely self taught. very cool.

we're trading a painting for a cake. i haven't decided what i want my cake to look like, or for what occasion i would need it. but as soon as i do, i'm going to put in my request. i like being on the other side of the requesting process.

she also sent me a picture of this little guy she made to say thanks.

he's sweet! (pun!)

A Pixie Changing the Result of a D20 and the Cheer Up Flying Penguin

why do i keep forgetting to post?! it's not like i don't remember to paint. i just forget to tell the internet that i painted.

when my mom saw the last free painting of a flying penguin, she was sad that i was giving it away. so i painted her a new, different one on her favorite color. well it's not actually her favorite color. she claims to not have a favorite color. but i know she especially likes when i use this dark blue for backgrounds. anyway, she got to jump the wait list just by seeming so dejected. and she already has too many pieces of my artwork. but you know, moms are special.

after i gave it to her she was very appreciative....and then said she wanted both flying penguins....and all previous free paintings as well. moms are crazy.

a tiny flying magical creature, and a 20-sided polyhedral gaming tool. hee hee nerd art.

Lightning McQueen

a request for the lead character from Cars. i know it got a lot of good reviews but i was disappointed with this movie, actually. the storyline was slow and predictable. the characters weren't memorable. maybe that's because they were all restricted to being vehicles. the dialog was lengthy and uninteresting. don't get me wrong, i love pixar. it's just the past movies were much better. and it seemed like people were talking about how great Cars was just based on the fact that it was Pixar not on the movie's merits. thankfully Pixar has made better films since then so i don't have to be upset. Ratatouille was slightly better and WALL-E left nothing to be desired.

The Second Installment of Two Animals

man, i'm getting good at remembering to post on weekends but now i'm forgetting weekdays! oh well. here are two.

this one is for a woman who liked my first irish terrier painting and wanted one too. it's definitely different than the first (see below). i hope that's ok with her. it's more fun for me to change it up.

this one is also a second version of an animal. well it's more like the second and a half version i've done because my first koala painting had a baby with it.

NASA doesn't waste time and money on painting their rockets cool colors

The Phantom of the Opera

this was a request for the image on the playbill cover of The Phantom of the Opera. i never understood why the phantom graphics always featured a mask that covers the top of the face while the mask the phantom actually wears covers the right side of his face.

it's an Ashford Traditional in case you were wondering.

Baby T. Rex

poor little guy has a tough name to learn how to spell. up until now he just abbreviated it to T.

3rd Panda

this request was pretty specific. it was for a panda "eating bamboo facing about 3/4 away from the viewer, but with his head turned around looking like he just got busted eating some prized bamboo"...on red. hope i got it right. i painted him sitting down because that's what pandas do when they eat. pandas don't actually have eyebrows but how else am i supposed to show him surprised? actually, now thinking about it, "3/4 away from the viewer" would be almost facing the back as opposed to what i did which would be called a "3/4 view". hmmm. too late now. and the requester already said she liked it. eyebrows and all, heh heh.

Electric Guitar

i was asked for an electric guitar. i used a gibson les paul as a model. though took some artistic liberties with the neck.

Duck Family

mom, dad and two boys. the youngest duck in the little bundle has a mint green room and this will be hanging there.
